This bespoke study and lounge space was designed as a refined retreat that combines executive functionality with elegant residential comfort. The project balances sophisticated architectural detailing with curated display joinery, creating an environment equally suited to work, relaxation and entertaining.

The design centres around symmetry, craftsmanship and carefully layered lighting, resulting in a space that feels calm, luxurious and highly personal to the client.

The Brief

The client wanted a multifunctional study that would feel sophisticated and distinctive while remaining warm and inviting rather than overtly corporate.

The brief called for a statement workspace, integrated display cabinetry and a comfortable adjoining lounge area that could showcase artwork, collectables and books within a cohesive architectural framework. The client also wanted subtle luxury throughout the space, with carefully considered textures, finishes and lighting helping to create atmosphere both during the day and in the evening.

Concept

A contemporary executive study inspired by boutique hospitality interiors, blending architectural symmetry with bespoke detailing and curated display elements.

Atmosphere

Elegant, calm and highly refined, with soft ambient lighting and a muted tonal palette creating depth and warmth throughout the space.

Materials

Rich timber veneers, textured wall finishes, polished metal detailing, lacquered joinery and glass surfaces combine to create a layered and luxurious interior.

Palette

Muted greys, warm neutrals and soft metallic finishes provide a sophisticated backdrop, accented by warm lighting and carefully curated artwork and accessories.

The Joinery

The bespoke joinery was designed to create both visual structure and functional flexibility throughout the space.

A sculptural curved desk forms the centrepiece of the study area, combining rich timber tones with a polished surface that reflects light beautifully and enhances the sense of openness within the room. The desk’s soft curvature introduces a more relaxed and contemporary character while maintaining a strong executive presence.

Integrated display cabinetry frames the adjoining lounge space, featuring illuminated shelving designed to showcase artwork, sculpture and collectables. The carefully balanced symmetry of the shelving and fireplace composition creates a strong architectural focal point while allowing personal items to become part of the interior narrative.

Decorative wall panelling and moulded detailing add depth and refinement, while concealed lighting enhances both the architecture and displayed objects with a soft ambient glow.

The cabinetry throughout incorporates a combination of lacquered finishes, metallic inlays and tactile hardware, creating a highly tailored aesthetic with subtle Art Deco influences.
